Sabrina Black Foundation Purpose
The Sabrina Black Foundation was setup in May of 2006 in memory of my late wife Sabrina, who had fought Hodgkin’s lymphoma for more than six years.
During our 9 years together, Sabrina would often see someone dining alone while we were out and secretly pay for that person’s meal on our way out of the restaurant. It was that secretive, spontaneous act of kindness that gave me the idea to work behind the scenes, to pay off the hospital bills for unsuspecting patients.
Sabrina loved the idea when I presented it to her. At the time, with the end of her life so near, she took it upon herself to hand select the Board of Directors for her foundation, and left a message for anyone that we might be able to help. That message is “It’s your job to fight the cancer. That is enough for anyone and you shouldn’t have to worry about how you’re going to make your house payment”.
The Sabrina Black Foundation raises money and then finds cancer patients through the billing offices of local cancer hospitals. We have the hospitals select candidates, and then contact the patients to let them know that an angel has heard their prayers and we pay off their entire hospital bill. We completely eliminate that debt so they can keep their money to pay their mortgage.
There are many wonderful organizations that help
everyone who is affected by cancer, and we support them all whole heartedly. But
instead of trying to help everyone a little, we have decided to “change one life
at a time”. We may only be able to assist 1 or 2 people a year, but the lives of
those people will be changed forever.
